Frequently Asked Questions
What is DeadNetGuard?
DeadNetGuard is a Chrome extension that blocks AI-generated "slop" content from your YouTube feed. It works like an ad blocker, but instead of blocking ads, it blocks low-quality AI-generated channels that pollute your recommendations.
What is "AI Slop"?
AI Slop refers to low-effort, AI-generated content created to game YouTube's algorithm. This includes AI voiceovers reading Reddit posts, faceless channels churning out hundreds of videos, stolen content with AI modifications, and mass-produced "educational" content with no real expertise.
How does blocking work?
When you browse YouTube, DeadNetGuard scans video cards and checks channel names against a blocklist. Blocked content is either hidden completely or shown with a "BLOCKED" overlay. You can click the overlay to reveal the content if you change your mind.
Is my data safe?
Yes! DeadNetGuard does NOT collect personal information, track your viewing history, or require any sign-in. Your personal blocklist is stored locally on your device. The only data sent to our servers is when you report a channel, and that's just the channel name - no personal info attached.
How do I report a channel?
Simply click the red block button next to any channel name on YouTube. The channel will be immediately added to your personal blocklist and reported to our community database to help other users.
Can I unblock a channel?
Yes! Open the DeadNetGuard popup, go to the "BLOCKLIST" tab, and click the X button next to any channel you want to unblock. You can also click on the overlay of a blocked video to temporarily reveal it.
Does it work on YouTube Shorts?
Yes! DeadNetGuard has a dedicated block button in the Shorts player that looks just like the native like/dislike buttons. When a blocked channel is detected in Shorts, it automatically skips to the next video.
What's the Community Blocklist?
The Community Blocklist is a crowdsourced database of known AI slop channels, reported and verified by users like you. It syncs automatically every hour so you're always protected against newly identified channels.
Is DeadNetGuard free?
Yes, DeadNetGuard is completely free and open source. No premium tiers, no subscriptions, no ads. Just pure protection against AI slop.
